Texas sun is the most destructive thing your paint will ever encounter, and it works from the top down. Roofs and hoods fail first, then the trunk lid, then the upper surfaces of the fenders. The clear coat goes chalky, then it starts peeling in sheets, and once that begins there is no polish that will bring it back.

Fading, oxidation, and clear coat failure

If the clear is still intact and only dull, correction and protection may be enough. Once it has begun to lift or flake, the panel has to be stripped back and refinished properly. We will tell you honestly which situation you are in rather than selling a buff job that lasts one summer.

Matching a color that has already moved

Computerized matching pulls the exact factory code for your make, model, and year, but that is only the starting formula. A car that has spent years parked outside in Houston is no longer the color it was mixed as. So we fine-tune the mix, spray it out, and check it under multiple lighting conditions before any of it touches your vehicle.

Silvers, pearls, and tri-coats are the difficult ones. A customer with a notoriously hard color to blend told us that when he saw the finished car he could not tell it had been hit at all.

Blending, and the booth

Color goes into the neighboring panels and the clear is carried to a natural break so the eye finds no edge. Everything is sprayed in a controlled booth, because dust in the clear on a humid Gulf Coast afternoon cannot be fixed afterward.

From bare panel to factory finish

A lasting refinish is mostly work you never see. The panel is repaired and sanded true, then sealed with primer so the color has something to bond to. Base coat builds the color in thin passes, clear coat goes over it for depth and UV protection, and once the finish cures, cutting and polishing bring up the gloss. Rush any of those steps and the Houston sun will find it within a couple of summers. We don't rush them.

Repair the paint, or repaint the panel?

Not every paint problem needs a full repaint, and an honest shop tells you which one you are looking at. Damage confined to one area can often be refinished and blended into the surrounding panels. Clear coat that is failing across the roof, hood, and trunk needs the larger job, because spot-fixing panels that are all aging at the same rate is money spent twice. We quote both options where both are realistic, so the choice is yours.
